(Naut.) Wooden or metal partitions between decks to separate one part from another. Compartment B. , extra strong bulkhead, separating the vessel into water-tight compartments. By this means a vessel (although struck and filling) may be kept afloat, the water being unable to get through the compartment bulkheads to the rest of the vessel.
