Each colony and State has had its own laws for local elections. The Constitution gives the Congress power to regulate Federal elections. Elections to the Senate were first put upon a uniform plan by Federal legislation in 1866, and elections to the House by Act of 1875. For the recent attempt to carry still further the policy of Federal control of Federal elections, see art. " Force Bill." History of colonial elections by Bishop.
