In Prince Edward County, VA, was founded as Prince Edward Academy, in 1776, by Presbyterians, and chartered as a college eight years later. Near by is the Presbyterian Union Theological Seminary, which was chartered in 1866. From 1837 to 1850 it had a medical school.
