An English divine, poet, and dramatist; born in Devonshire, 1604; died 1672. He was archdeacon of Chichester, and chaplain in ordinary to Charles II. Besides sermons and poems, he wrote "The City Match" (new ed. 1659), one of the best of early English comedies; "The Amorous Warre" (new ed. 1659), a tragicomedy; etc.
