(Naut.) Marks are the fathoms marked on the hand lead-line, and are placed at two, three, five, seven, ten, thirteen, fifteen, seventeen, and twenty fathoms; Deeps, the fathoms between the marks. In sounding nine fathoms, the leadsman calls, " Deep nine," but at a marked fathom, as ten, he calls, ' ' Mark ten."
