Term used to express the extent of the change in curvature of the crystalline lens that can be effected by a maximum contraction of the ciliary muscle. It is expressed in the number of diopters by which the refractive power of the lens is thus increased. The range of accommodation diminishes steadily with age, according to a definite curve, from 14 diopters at 10 years to 1 diopter at 60 years. [Lat.]
