An American essay-writer, sister of N. P. Willis and wife of James Parton; born in Portland, Me., July 9, 1811; died in Brooklyn, N. Y., Oct. 10, 1872. She is said to have contributed an article each week, for sixteen years, to the New York Ledger. She published two novels,- "Ruth Hall" (1854), a slightly veiled autobiography, and "Rose Clark" (1857); and collections from her contributions to the weekly press.
