A genus of plants belonging to the nat. order Apocynaceae. T. venenifera is a tree which produces the celebrated tanghin poison of Madagascar. The poisonous quality resides in the kernel, and one seed is said to be sufficient to kill twenty persons. It has smooth alternate thickish leaves, and large terminal cymes of pink flowers, which are succeeded by large purplish fruits containing a hard stone surrounded by a thick fibrous flesh.
