A genus of plants, nat. order Coniferae. The species are known by the name of arbor-vitoe, or tree of life; they are evergreens, trees or shrubs, and are inhabitants of Asia, Africa, and North America. T. occidentalis, the American arbor-vitae, and T. orientalis, the Chinese arbor-vitae, are used extensively as ornamental plants.
