A Hungarian poet and critic; born at Komorn, Sept. 4, 1848. Since 1882 he has been professor of Aesthetics at the University of Buda-Pesth. His numerous tales show unusual talent for psychological delineation; among them are: "Judge Martin" (1872); "The Nameless Ones" (1875); "Kalozdi Bela" (1875), a novel. His dramaturgic studies and criticisms appeared under the title "Playwrights and Actors" (1881). He has also written an excellent history of Hungarian literature (6th ed. 1891).
